Established in 1854, experience the rich history near the World Heritage Site, Itsukushima Shrine.
In the first year of Ansei (1854), the founder of our Property, Iwakuniya Sobei, received permission from the magistrate's office to develop the area. He built a bridge over the Momiji River in front of the Property and established a teahouse by the stream as a resting place for travelers. This marked the beginning of "Miyajima no Yado Iwaso." Later, the bustling popularity continued, and the Property officially opened as a Ryokan in the early Meiji period. The main entrance building dates back to 1892 (Meiji 25), and the lobby was constructed during renovations in 1981 (Showa 56). Today, we draw natural Onsen, a rarity on the island, and offer accommodations in the main building, new building, and detached rooms. As a Ryokan nestled within a national park, we strive daily to ensure our guests can relax and enjoy their stay.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Founded in Ansei 1 (1854) Visiting Itsukushima Shrine traditionally involved worshiping the shrine and the sacred peak of Mount Misen from a boat offshore near the grand torii gate. Momijidani (Maple Valley) lies just behind it, at the foot of Mount Misen, the sacred body of Itsukushima Shrine. With its ever-flowing clear streams, it invites travelers to appreciate the subtle seasonal transitions unique to Japan—vibrant greenery in spring, the coolness of mountain streams in summer, the brilliant autumn foliage, and the serene quiet of winter. It is a magnificent scenic spot that has long captivated visitors. Now, please enjoy Momijidani and Iwaso, which have walked together with this land, Miyajima—one of Japan's Three Scenic Views and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The new building with reinforced concrete Japanese-style Rooms features a bath and Western-style toilet in all Rooms, and is wheelchair accessible from the entrance to the Room. Built in the late Showa era, this new building offers a location "overlooking Momiji Valley," which was previously impossible with wooden structures. After enjoying views of the mountains and rivers, please enjoy the Seto Inland Sea, and in the evening, you can view the sunset sinking on the opposite shore, experiencing the openness to the World Heritage nature from within the building.

Enjoy seasonal "treasures of the sea" and "treasures of the mountains." Savor our heartfelt hospitality, featuring rich ingredients from Hiroshima such as oysters and conger eel. Indulge in beautifully presented kaiseki cuisine, crafted with care to offer an elegant and refined taste.
